There are objects made to contain precious things. And there are objects made to contain power. WERWULF rests within a reliquary conceived and manufactured by Parts of Four, its architecture recalling the portable reliquaries of the late Middle Ages, precious cases made to conceal, protect and carry matter believed to possess a power beyond its physical form.

Created exclusively for WERWULF, each reliquary is handmade by Parts of Four in an extremely limited edition of 250 pieces. The object combines the uncompromising material language of Parts of Four with Heretic’s approach to scent. Steel is worked and finished by hand, custom hinges are fabricated specifically for the object, and its interior is individually carved from wood to receive the flacon that lies within. 

At its center rests a 15ml French ground-glass apothecary flacon sealed with a stopper, chosen for its weight, simplicity and permanence. Within it, WERWULF is presented as an Extrait, a concentrated expression of the fragrance composed without alcohol. Each bears the subtle evidence of its making; no two are precisely alike.

Noble metal surrounds hand-carved teak. Teak surrounds glass. Glass surrounds the Extrait. Each layer protects the next.
As hide protects flesh.
As flesh protects blood.
As blood conceals the animal.

In partnership with Robert Eggers X Focus Features, Heretic is proud to collaborate on Werwulf, a primal scent of the beast awakening beneath human skin. Warm skin, damp earth, root, resin, and the suggestion of wet fur create a fragrance that feels animalic, earthen, and unnervingly alive. 

Bitter grapefruit breaks first.
Rose opens, not as flower, but as flesh.
Osmanthus ripens against orris and violet leaf.
Vanilla darkens. Labdanum and benzoin begin to smolder.
Vetiver brings the earth.
Then something emerges beneath it.
Warm hide.
Damp earth.
Wet furre.
The smell of an animal come in from the rain.
Breathing. Near.
The Extrait does not surround you.
It enters you.
It mingles with the heat of the body until the boundary between perfume and skin becomes difficult to discern.
