There is a reason we call it the silver screen. Traditional motion picture film contains microscopic crystals of silver within its emulsion. Light strikes the film and an image is born, captured through chemistry, matter and silver.
For WERWULF, that silver has been given another life.
Heretic partnered with British jewellery house From The Silver Screen, who recover silver from the processing of motion picture film that would otherwise disappear. Their laboratories work with this reclaimed material through meticulous process of recovery and refinement, and transform it into sterling silver jewelry. For this limited edition pendant, they've rendered silver recovered from the processing of the actual film used to create Robert Eggers' WERWULF.

Throughout history, symbols were understood to possess a potency beyond their appearance. Marks were carved into stone, scratched into metal, drawn onto parchment and carried against the body. Sigils have been created to protect, invoke and bind. But occasionally, their purpose was not entirely clear. A symbol intended to protect its bearer from a force might contain the very signs associated with that force. Was the thing being kept out? Or invited in? That ambiguity lies at the heart of the WERWULF Sigil.
Created by Heretic for Robert Eggers' WERWULF, the WERWULF Sigil was developed through historical research and vetted by the Oxford scholar of pagan studies who worked with Eggers on the film. Its symbols explore transformation, containment and the uncertain boundary between man and beast.
At its center is a vertical axis. It may be read as a body. A tree. A cross. A line between the earthly and the unseen. Across it, opposing forms appear to bind the central figure while simultaneously dividing it. Around this structure is the circle, one of the oldest and most persistent forms in ritual imagery. A circle can define sacred space. It can contain. It can protect. lt can separate one world from another. Surrounding the central device are irregular characters whose meaning resists simple translation. They are deliberately imperfect, their purpose not to provide an answer, but to suggest the remains of a private language.
Taken together, the mark speaks to the central question of WERWULF. Where does the man end and the beast begin? Perhaps the circle protects the man from the Wulf. Perhaps it binds the Wulf within the man. Or perhaps it does something more dangerous still.
Perhaps it calls the Wulf forward.

Þe Wode Hath Teth represents the waxing moon and the scent of the feral forest and its dangers. Werwulf is the scent of the beast awakening—the moment under the full moon when civility gives way to something older. Blodwode represents the waning moon and the scent long after the act has been committed. The forest doesn’t forget what it has seen.
